A Bit of Bordeaux

Bordeaux is a beautiful city, old buildings, wine trade and a hub for retail therapy.
Approx 350 buildings listed, account for it being a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
La Grosse Cloche, 13th century tower that once served as a gateway and bell tower of the medieval  city.
The bell is rung to announce the start of the grape harvest or disasters such as fires or floods.

City Hall, originally the archbishop's palace.
The large door knocker to the entrance to City Hall.
Tour Pey-Berland. The tower is 66m high and is topped with gilded statue of Our Lady of Aquitaine.
Hand painted columns in the Cathedral of St Andrew.

The magnificent organ in the cathedral.
If bottles grew on vines like this it would be a lot easier and cut out the middleman!!!

The Fountain of the Three Graces.

  1. Amazing displays of the wealth in this city. That last fountain must represent something quite triumphal. The horses look like they are leaping right at you.
